The Top Essential Oils for Men

The Top Essential Oils for Men

You might well have been thinking that perfumery, and the enjoyment of scents in general is something that’s mainly marketed to and enjoyed by women but men too enjoy scents on a bigger scale then we might think. Indeed a lot of the perfumers that create these beautiful, heaven-like scents that we all enjoy so much ARE men so it shouldn’t be too far fetched to believe that they have an appreciation for the beauty of fragrance just as much as we do.

But that’s where the similarity ends, for though a lot of us girls wouldn’t bat an eyelid when picking up our boyfriends “Joop” or “Cool Water” most men would run a mile if we tried to spray our “Candy by Prada” on them (btw please bare in mind I am NOT endorsing the sickly sweet smelling perfume as I don’t like it much).  Men do not typically like floral smelling fragrances either.

Personally I tend to go between fresh, citrusy clean smelling fragrances like Chloe’s signature Eau de Parfum to soapy, creamy scents like D&G’s The One to a more heavier, muskier scent like the gorgeous smelling Laura Mercier Nuit Enchantee’s. I particularly love the smell of Johnson’s Baby lotion and Baby Powder, so wherever I find a smell that emulates the clean, powdery sweetness of Johnsons Baby Lotion I’m all on it. Prada’s Infusion D’Iris is a good example of this.

And a great perfume that I like to wear for layering (meaning it goes with absolutely every perfume I own and has a beautiful yet like powdery-floral scent on its own), is: Drum roll please..

 Heavenly by Victoria’s Secret

Heavenly

It’s lovely. And more of a mist so it’s really light. More of a top note perfume really, though it does have musky elements.

But men, what do men wear when they want to smell good? – well in my experience men typically want to Smell Fresh, Clean, Aquatic, Mossy, Woody, Citrusy or Musky, so when composing fragrances for a man you want to use ingredients like:

Patchouli. Vetiver. Oakmoss. Sandalwood. Vanilla. Ginger. Black Pepper. Bay. Clary Sage. Cedarwood. Tobacco. Frankincense. Myrrh. Petitgrain. May Chang. Marjoram

Most of the Citrus Oils are good to use too but especially: Lemon. Bergamot. Lime. Mandarin

And even Florals! (in small quantities) like: Lavender. Jasmine. Neroli

Unfortunately for me, my boyfriend isn’t too big on fragrances and doesn’t wear aftershave much(though he has successfully managed to buy me a few fragrances that I love!), but if he was into them then he would probably say that he likes Clean, Aquatic Smells or Woody, Musky Smells and luckily for him I like them too.

What’s your favourite man smell?

Forgive me if I bore you…

BUT I really must tell you again how amazed I am that I’d never heard of this vision board thing before! Ever since I found out (only yesterday!) how to create one I have been making them like crazy! I think I’m seriously addicted 🙂

I also signed up to Polyvore (which I’d initially assumed was just a shopping site), and I created a collection, including my Reed Diffuser which you can see here: http://www.polyvore.com/rosegold/collection?id=4017934

Alas I haven’t quite worked out how to create and share a vision board created on Polyvore. When I do you’ll be the first to know!

Look see, at my creativityy! 🙂

Fragrance Profile: Vanilla

Fragrance Profile: Vanilla

Vanilla, inci name Vanilla Planifolia, is found primarily in Mexico but can also be found in places like Madagascar, Indonesia and the southwestern Indian Ocean. Vanilla is a dark, resinous substance extracted from vanilla bean that is best known for it’s versatility in sweets, desserts, and perfume. In addition to being tasty it is also used as a remarkably versatile perfume ingredient. It’s distinctly sweet, warm, soothing and creamy aroma is well liked and has some very good health benefits too.

Afrodisiac: Vanilla stimulates hormones that bring about sexual arousal and desire. It has an effect on erectile dysfunction, frigidity and loss of libido.

Antioxidant: A powerful antioxidant all rounder, Vanilla protects the body from wear and tear and infections.

Antidepressant: Works well to combat the feelings of stress and anxiety and uplift.

Relaxing: Vanilla Essential Oil provides a calming influence on the brain and relief from feelings of anxiety, stress and restlessness.

Vanilla is used frequently in perfumery to add sweetness and warmth to perfume creations. It blends well with almost all florals, particularly Jasmine and works well with woods and citrus oils also.

The Secret Scent Societe’s Ylang Ylang and Vanilla Aromatherapy Soy Candle embodies all that is great about Vanilla: It’s effortless ability to provide a sultry, smooth sweetness, and blend with the exotic flower Ylang Ylang to create a delicate and feminine ambience.

We’ve come to a bit of a lull here in The Secret Scent Societe’ lab but rather then sit about stewing over the whats the whys and the wheres I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands and try getting my products into some magazines. I don’t know what stopped me from doing this before, fear perhaps, but I’ve decided that fear isn’t going to get my brand where I want it to be. I realise now that without setting any realistic tasks and goals I would continue to feel de-motivated and ask myself what the point was. Understanding that this is normal, and that I’m far from being the only one is the first step to deciding how to remedy the problem. So I took some advice that my cousin gave me last week about contacting the magazines and websites that I want my products to be featured in and have contacted the editor of my favourite magazine of all Stylist. There page The Style List always has an eyecatching variety of products both from well known brands and small independent ones. It’s infact the one place where I know that my products would do well to be seen in, as in actually result in sales, which unfortunately not what happened after my ad in VOGUE (sad but true). In reality all marketing and promotion is a gamble, and sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn’t. But I do believe that being seen in Stylist is a positive and progressive step towards being where I want to be: An established brand that people can’t help but to be loyal to. I appreciate that they must get tons of people contacting them about being in there magazine so I have sent an email offering a free sample of my products. I mean, who doesn’t want a freebie?
I think that since I’m on a roll there’s no point in stopping there.

Over the next few weeks I’m going to contact a few other publications about being featured. Aferall they can only say no huh?

Has fear ever held you back from doing things you want to do? And if so, what did you do about it in the end?

Good Morning Everyone!

My brother is running a Cardio Circuit workout class in North London on Monday evenings and I went along for the first time yesterday and almost COLLAPSED from the intensity of it.
