The best fragrance’s for each room in your home

The best fragrance’s for each room in your home

Nowadays when we walk into a fancy department store like The White Company, Abercrombie & Fitch or Hollister to name just a few we immediately get hit with a waft of perfume. And this is no coincidence. Big brands have started employing Scent Marketers as they have realised that in order to make more sales they need to engage people’s most emotional senses: Their sense of smell.

75% of our emotions is linked to smell which is directly linked to pleasure, happiness and general well-being so having a brand fragrance has shown to dramatically increase sales because it enhances their sense of connection with the brand and their values – no wonder they are making it their business to get into the scent business.

When we are at home, this feeling of contentment and well-being is all the more important because we want our homes to smell good, be inviting and personal to us all at the same time.

Here are some suggestions on fragrances to introduce into your home environment to stimulate the senses and connect your environment with the way you’d like it to feel.

Living Room

This is typically the room we relax in, so it’s the room we’d like to be calm and comfortable in. Woody/Spicy fragrances like Sandalwood and Frankincense are good in this environment.

Our Candle F & M has woody hints of Sandalwood and refreshing Citrus along with spicy, anchoring notes of Frankincense & Myrrh. The perfect scent for an environment of relaxation.

Kitchen

We spent a lot of time in the kitchen, and now that more and more people are getting open planned kitchen/dining spaces so that they can entertain their friends it’s even more important that you get the smell of your kitchen right because nobody wants a kitchen that smells bad. The best scents to create a feeling of freshness and mask any unpleasant food odours are citrus or herbal fragrances like Lavender or Bergamot.

Our Candle fragrance Lavender, With Love has the best of both worlds, a fresh, slightly fruity floral note and a refreshing herbaceous scent of Lavender.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are where we get clean so we want them to smell clean. This is best achieved by having a brightening Citrus fragrance, such as Lemon or Grapefruit.

Our Citrus Aromatherapy Candle Grapefruit & Lime looks great in the bathroom and will fill the air with a fresh and uplifting Citrus notes.

Bedroom

Your bedroom is your sanctuary. It is your most personal space and therefore is the area in which your personality should really shine. It is also the most sensual space in the home so natural aphrodisiac scents like Rose and Jasmine should feature boldly. Or if you really want to seduce someone then a oriental fragrance will do that nicely.

Our Aromatherapy Candle Rose-Geranium & Jasmine is a great place to start but if you prefer a fragrance with more dark, sexy, mysterious notes then our luxurious Candle fragrance Indian Mistress of the Night, with spicy notes of Ginger and floral notes of Tuberose really set the mood.

Or, if you’re looking for a more Bespoke Fragrance to compliment your rooms and yourself, then why don’t you try our Bespoke Candle Service where you can get a signature scent created especially for yourself or give it as a extra special gift.

So, get yourself and your home smelling the way you want!

New Product Photography

A few weeks ago I had a photoshoot in Kilburn for my existing and up and coming products.

It was waaay overdue and I’m really glad that I done it though I had only booked a 2 hour slot and I didn’t realise until we were shooting how quickly that time goes!

I do think that it makes sense to do product photoshoots regularly (like every 6 months or so) and time it so that you’re able to incorporate any new products into your shoot also.

I will be releasing 3 new products just in time for Christmas! (Wood Wick Candles, Hair Perfume and Eau De Parfum)

Here are the fruits of my labour (or his, depending on which way you want to look at it!):

1.Reed Diffuser Transparent2.Lavender, With Love Candle

3.Body Scrub Souffle' Lemongrass & Mandarin4.First Love Perfume

  1. Anniversary Reed Diffuser
  2. Lavender, With Love Luxury Soy Candle
  3. Lemongrass & Mandarin Himalayan Pink Salt Body Scrub Souffle’
  4. First Love Eau De Parfum

Would love to know your thoughts on the new photography and products!

As always, The Secret Scent Societe’ Bath, Bodycare and Fragrant Homewares are available to buy on NOTHS: http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/thesecretscentsociete

I am going to be doing a clear out of my fragrance studio at home which means that most of my fragrance oils will have to be discarded as they have now passed their expiry date. It is utterly PAINFUL to see so many good fragrances get thrown away but unfortunately all fragrance oils have a lifeline of approximately 2 years and a lot of them are fast approaching that now. After the fragrance oils sell by date has expired they become harder to work with (in soap and in candles especially), are prone to discolouration and their scent fades. No thanks.

I think once I’ve done a clear out of my fragrance oils (and anything else that’s bin overdue – do you see what I done there? ;), I am going to start keeping a list of all of my Fragrance Oils with details of their approximate expiry dates so I don’t have to guess in future.

I’m also going to print a few Fragrance Wheel’s and pin them up on the walls of my studio to give me inspiration. I don’t usually work with fragrance wheels when designing candle fragrances but it is definitely handy when designing perfume scents which is what I’d like to get into a lot more once I have upgraded my fragrance stock.

I really like this one but I’d also like to find some more complex ones.

A Fancy Fragrance Wheel (sorry, this image is no longer available)

I was approached by a blogger recently, who expressed an interest in featuring some of my products, namely my reed diffusers and scented candles on her blog. She was very complimentary about my products and has reviewed similar luxury home accessory brands on her successful US based luxury travel blog.

I have usually shied away from sending my products to US based bloggers in the past because of the restrictions in sending perfumes and fragrances overseas but sometimes if you can provide specific information on the ingredients used in the products you want to send they allow you to send it so I have sent them the MSDS sheets for the Fragrance Oils I have used in my reed diffusers and candles and am just waiting to hear back from them to see whether it’s going to be a no go or not. It is so annoying to think that my customer base is massively restricted by these postal bans as the US is a massive market that it would be amazing to be able to ship my products over there.

Also, one of my Fragrance Oil suppliers (Sensory Perfection) has discontinued one of my most loved fragrances: Lychee, aswell as Rice Flower Aand Orris FO and I cannot find a supplier of Lychee oil anywhere else in the UK. As one of our popular candles: Monoi de Tahiti & Lychee has a high percentage of Lychee in it and I have plans for it to be featured in many other fragrances, it is imperative that I get my hands on it as soon as possible. Ordering from the US (though a solution), is not ideal as it will take a long time to be shipped to me and also it will cost MUCH more as I will have to pay international shipping charges aswell as customs and duties taxon it  too. For one little bottle of FO it’s hardly going to be worth it.

So, if you know of a reliable UK supplier of Lychee Fragrance Oil then please do post their details below. It is very important that I source an alternative otherwise I fear we’ll all suffer!  sniff sniff

This week we’ve been featured on a wonderful blog called Rules of a Lady, cool name huh?!

Rules of a Lady is a young, fashion forward lifestyle blog created by Italian blogger Silvia Cavagnini. She is big into fashion, lifestyle, interior design and infact anything beautiful and unusual and she contacted me recently about doing a collaboration with her. She looks for products that she really likes on websites such as Etsy (where she found me), and then she contacts companies about doing a feature on them. I just happened to be one of the lucky ones. She was particularly taken with my Coconut & Musk Soy candle and my RoseGold Reed Diffuser. A few weeks ago I sent her my very favourite soy candle Apple Blossom and Pear and my Luxury Grapefruit Bath Salts to review and she took a picture of it and left a review here:

Happy Friday!!

There’s been lots going on for me this week as aside from working and posting out orders for our new aromatherapy candles, I’ve also been cat shopping as my boyfriend and I have decided to leave my beloved cat Jackson Brown with my Mum, and get ourselves a kitten. I was going to bring him with me to my new home but I’ve realised now that it would be better for him if I left him where he is. He is happy there and besides, my Mum would miss him terribly. I have always wanted a British Shorthair cat so I’m excited about finally getting to own one. We’re going to get either a blue or lilac one.

Also this week, my colleague asked me if I can make some wedding favors (soaps and candles) for her wedding in August. I’m really excited about this as it means that I can use this as a catalyst to expand into the hugely successful Wedding Market. She has pretty much given me free reign (within reason), to design and make her favors so I set about giving her some ideas this week, including this:

Himalayan Pink Salt French Clay and Poppy Seed Soap Parcel

I’m planning on making a variety of different soap types so that I can eventually do a show at one of the bridal exhibitions and hopefully gain a new client base!

Also, if you know of any good wedding shows in London happening this year then do tell me about it as I’d like to visit a few to see what kind of products are being exhibited there, gain some inspiration and get some idea’s!

Have a great weekend all! 🙂

Newbies!

Newbies!

Hi!

This past week has been a little manic for me. I’ve been trying to drastically reduce my clothes and shoe collection as I’m going to be moving in with my boyfriend next weekend (yay) and I don’t wish to overflow his house with clothes and shoes that I’m not likely to wear again. So I decided that I’d give as many of my clothes as I can to charity, and the shoes that I never wore more then once, or in some cases not at all, to some of my friends. So far so good. I never realised how much skincare/candlemaking equipment I have though – it’s taking over the entire kitchen, lol.

I finally managed to sort out the settings on my camera and take some photographs of my new products, including:

Skin Silk Shea Body Butter
Skin Silk Cocoa Body Butter
Aromatherapy Candles: Rose-Geranium & Jasmine, Ginger & Sage, Grapefruit & Lime, Ylang Ylang & Vanilla and Lemongrass & Mandarin
White Scented Candles: Coconut & Musk, Appleblossom & Pear, Tuberose, Jasmine & Mediterranean Fig and Monoi de Tahiti & Lychee
Hair Elixir
First Love Eau de Parfum
Hair Perfume Mist Spray
Luxury Grapefruit Bath Salts
Rose-Geranium and Jasmine Body Souffle’
Rose Geranium and Jasmine Salt Scrub Souffle’
Lemongrass and Mandarin Body Souffle’
Lemongrass and Mandarin Salt Scrub Souffle’

I’ve also started putting together some gift baskets for the Christmas. I was approached by a film production company about trading at there private party a few weeks ago and also by the manager of the Christmas Markets in Islington regarding trading at there 3 day event at the beginning of December however I had to decline both as I just wouldn’t have had enough time to get everything ready, not to mention the actual creating the stock to sell at the events in the firstplace plus I’m down to trade at Brick Lane Market again at the beginning of December. The Islington event did sound great but I knew it would just be too much to organise in a mere 3 weeks, however I am planning on going there on one of the days to have a look around so that I can consider possibly trading with them next year.

If your a crafter, what Christmas markets are you trading at? have you traded there before? are you looking forward to it? have any been recommended to you? where is the market your trading at?

Here are a few of the new products that I have recently created. They are available to buy on Etsy and Notonthehighstreet now:
