Our Mission Statement.

Our Mission Statement.

Trying to come up with a statement that describes who you are, what makes your business unique, it’s ethics, beliefs and values isn’t easy. I know the things that are important to me and why I feel that my brand is unique but conveying that into a brief statement, one that not only reads clearly but captivates and inspires the imagination too is quite a challenge.

I’m still working on it, but here’s what I have so far:

Luxury. Scents. Nature

The Secret Scent Societe’ is a luxury beauty brand that fuses a love of nature with a passion for fragrance. We believe strongly in the purity and simplicity of natural ingredients which we use exclusively in our natural skincare products, and we believe in the power and mystery of scent. We celebrate this in our line of luxury handmade fragrance and natural skincare products. Love you completely.

I’ve re-written it a couple of times but for some reason I just keep coming back to this sentence so I’m going to leave it for now. I’ve seen some really excellent mission statements from my competitors so I’m keen to improve mine gradually so that it’s the best that it can be and represents my brand philosophy completely but for now I’m going to stick to this one and then maybe I can come back to it in a few weeks and review it again.

What are your thoughts on it? – Is there anything you’d change or add to it? Do you think I’ve covered everything here? Does it read and convey well?

Bentonite Clay & Manuka Honey Face Mask Recipe

Bentonite Clay & Manuka Honey Face Mask Recipe

The perfect homemade detox clay mask curtesy of The Secret Scent Societe’

You will need:

2 tsp Bentonite Clay (it should be grey/off-white in colour and very finely powered).
2 tsp Floral Water (I used Orange Blossom/#Neroli, but you can use any floral water you like, or just use normal tap water)
1 tsp Raw Honey (Native to New Zealand, Manuka Honey specifically is the very best honey that you can buy and you preferably want to go for one that’s been UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) certified as that means that it’s been tested by an independent laboratory for it’s superior quality.
1 tsp Vegetable oil (Olive oil, Grapeseed Oil or Jojoba Oil are good ones to use)
A small plastic tub to mix your clay mask in
A plastic spoon
(You can also add Essential Oils but I hardly see the point considering you’re going to wash it off)

Instructions:
– Using a plastic spoon (DO NOT use a metal spoon as Bentonite clay has unique properties that allow it to absorb not only toxins and impurities but also metal if it comes into contact with it, causing it to be less effective), measure out your water, oil and honey and stir.
– The clay should always be added to the water/oil/honey mixture, not the other way around as it will be easier to work with this way.
– Then using your spoon you want to add the clay to the mixture a bit at a time mixing thoroughly until it turns into a paste.
– Using clean fingers (or a clean makeup brush), apply the mixture, wait about 10 minutes (during which it may make your skin feel a little tingly or tight (this is normal), then gently remove with a warm wet face cloth.

Lastly: Moisturise. Argan Oil or Jojoba Oil are the best oils to use for this job.

And Voila!, you have made your very own face mask!
Your skin will feel as smooth as velvet. This recipe is packed full of amazing natural ingredients that will do absolute wonders for the maintenance of your skin. Use this mask once or twice a week to clear up any impurities and to take your skin to the next level! The mask must be discarded after each use and made anew each time you want to use it on your face because it won’t stay fresh for long.

Enjoy!

More on the benefits of Bentonite clay soon!

Just 2 weeks to go!

Just 2 weeks to go!

British-Vogue-Logo

Yes, tis a mere 2 weeks to go before my debut in British VOGUE Magazine and gosh am I excited!
My plan to replace all of the pictures on my NotOnTheHighstreet page is in process (a work in progress!) in preparation for lots of views (and hopefully, sales!)
It’s far from perfect but I think that finally I’m getting the hang of this photography thing, which is a relief I can tell you.

I have pre warned a few friends that I may be requiring there assistance should things get a little crazy following the VOGUE release and I’m giving away my very first batch of cold process soap to some specially selected friends and family with a prompt for them to review it and give me there honest opinion. I think this will be really helpful in order to improve on my next batch of soap, listening to there very honest advice and taking into account all of the things that they think constitutes a good bar of soap! I intend on doing many more soap tests to get the perfect bar before I release any for general sale.

I’m continuing to market my products on Etsy, though I’m not getting many bites. To be honest the only reason why I bother staying on there at all is for my presence on the internet, otherwise I wouldn’t bother. Despite my products being cheaper on there then on notonthehighstreet sales are still excruciatingly slow, almost non existent.

The feature in VOGUE is out on Monday 7th April so do pick one up! It’s called “Best Kept Beauty Secrets”

Also, if you haven’t already done so, do follow me on Twitter and/or Facebook and I will follow you/like you back! Links below.

Happy Wednesday! 🙂

Newbies!

Newbies!

Hi!

This past week has been a little manic for me. I’ve been trying to drastically reduce my clothes and shoe collection as I’m going to be moving in with my boyfriend next weekend (yay) and I don’t wish to overflow his house with clothes and shoes that I’m not likely to wear again. So I decided that I’d give as many of my clothes as I can to charity, and the shoes that I never wore more then once, or in some cases not at all, to some of my friends. So far so good. I never realised how much skincare/candlemaking equipment I have though – it’s taking over the entire kitchen, lol.

I finally managed to sort out the settings on my camera and take some photographs of my new products, including:

Skin Silk Shea Body Butter
Skin Silk Cocoa Body Butter
Aromatherapy Candles: Rose-Geranium & Jasmine, Ginger & Sage, Grapefruit & Lime, Ylang Ylang & Vanilla and Lemongrass & Mandarin
White Scented Candles: Coconut & Musk, Appleblossom & Pear, Tuberose, Jasmine & Mediterranean Fig and Monoi de Tahiti & Lychee
Hair Elixir
First Love Eau de Parfum
Hair Perfume Mist Spray
Luxury Grapefruit Bath Salts
Rose-Geranium and Jasmine Body Souffle’
Rose Geranium and Jasmine Salt Scrub Souffle’
Lemongrass and Mandarin Body Souffle’

I’ve also started putting together some gift baskets for the Christmas. I was approached by a film production company about trading at there private party a few weeks ago and also by the manager of the Christmas Markets in Islington regarding trading at there 3 day event at the beginning of December however I had to decline both as I just wouldn’t have had enough time to get everything ready, not to mention the actual creating the stock to sell at the events in the firstplace plus I’m down to trade at Brick Lane Market again at the beginning of December. The Islington event did sound great but I knew it would just be too much to organise in a mere 3 weeks, however I am planning on going there on one of the days to have a look around so that I can consider possibly trading with them next year.

If your a crafter, what Christmas markets are you trading at? have you traded there before? are you looking forward to it? have any been recommended to you? where is the market your trading at?

Here are a few of the new products that I have recently created. They are available to buy on Etsy and Notonthehighstreet now:

Treasury Feature 11/11/13

Treasury Feature 11/11/13

Hi All!

I hope that whatever you did this weekend, it was a memorable one.
I had a nice relaxing weekend at home with my boyfriend. We watched loads of episodes of Breaking Bad (love it!) and my sister stayed over on Friday night and brought her freshly baked banana and walnut loaf with her. Mmmmm!

I spent at least 4 hours on Sunday morning working on product photography but in the end I wasn’t happy with any of the images as they all had a blue tint to them (probably something to do with the camera settings), alas I will have to do them all again – what fun! (not).

I am in 4 Treasurys this week! The first one is entitled “I’m not always a pink kind of girl” – which I can vouch for as I’m not a particularly pinky girl either, however I do like blood red, ox red, burgundy (all very similar I know, hehe) and blush pink and they all feature in this lovely treasury. My blush pink candle “Anniversary” is featured here.

Natural Skincare Ingredients Properties

Natural Skincare Ingredients Properties

DO you know what’s in YOUR skincare products? Are your skincare products full of mumbo jumbo chemically produced names that you’ve never heard of and don’t occur in nature? Are you being tricked by marketing spiel to buy extortionately priced beauty products that are not infact very good for your skin at all?

Well, we are going to reveal exactly what’s in our body cream right now AND tell you why these ingredients should be used in your skincare regime!

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender has a soothing and calming effect on the senses, with a beautiful, delicate sweet-dry-herbaceous note that blends with most essential oils, particularly citrus oils. It is a natural antiseptic, and can be used neat on the skin to heal and help to prevent scarring. Lavender Oil helps to eradicate common skin afflictions such as psoriasis, acne, oily skin, sunburn, bites and stings. One of the most versatile of the essential oils, it’s scent is pleasing to most people and is often used in both men and women’s perfume.

Shea Butter

Shea Butter is grown in West Africa and is considered to be one of the best all round natural body healers. Shea Butter is a creamy and richly moisturising butter, with Vitamin E and D and essential fatty acids. A powerful antioxidant, with UV protection, it is skin strengthening and protecting, collagen production stimulating, and makes the skin smooth, supple and radiant.

Beeswax

Beeswax is a natural wax produced by bee’s in there hive and has a variety of uses and benefits. An effective anti-bacterial, with emollient, emulsifying, moisturising and antiseptic qualities with an instantly recognisable creamy honey-like scent.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera gel is extracted from the Aloe Vera plant and is a beauty, skin and hair miracle!
It can be used to treat scalds, soothe burns, reduce tissue damage, relieve insect bites or stings, work as a fast absorbing skin moisturiser, prevent scarring and stretch marks, brighten the skin by reducing pigmentation and dark spots and aid the hair in growing, making it stronger, smoother and silkier.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat soluable antioxidant. Aiding in healing the skin, protection from the sun, regenerating skin cells, retaining the skins natural moisture levels and making dull, dry hair look healthier and shinier.

All of these amazing natural ingredients can be benefited from in our new product: Skin Silk Shea Body Butter – If you want skin that you never thought was possible without paying out excessive amounts of money for lotions and potions that are chemically produced and have hardly any health benefits whatsoever then should try this: A completely natural, skin regenerating body butter using some of natures finest ingredients, with the beautiful, uplifting scent of Lavender.

Skin Silk Shea Body Butter comes in a stunning blush pink frosted glass container. Glass containers are best for protecting cosmetic creams from light oxidation and sunlight thus assisting with prolonging the shelf life of your products and we aim to use them to store all of our skincare products.

Fun Times!

Fun Times!

I never thought a craft market could be so fun!

Yesterday, The Secret Scent Societe’ exhibited at The Crafty Fox Market in Brixton and though at first it was a little nervewracking (because I was worried that I wouldn’t make any sales at all!), I ended up having a fabulous time. The DJs were excellent (there was a DJ on every floor!), the atmosphere buzzing, the traders friendly, and the tea and cakes a welcome treat! My boyfriend was roped into helping me set up, my Mum into admin duties, and my friends into packing up, and to tell you the truth: I really couldn’t have done it without them. They were absolute gems.

Alongside having my friends, boyfriend and parents there for moral support, I managed to exceed my sales target and more importantly, I gained some invaluable feedback (and some lovely compliments too) about my products so that I can go forward with a clearer idea of what my clients liked, what they didn’t like, what they want, and ultimately what I need to do to improve my products and services. And unlike other Markets that I’ve done, there didn’t seem to be a clear favourite product wise, as people loved the candles, the skincare products (in particular the rose geranium and jasmine body souffle’), but also my reed diffusers, soap and incense too and that means…well I guess it just means that I am somewhat on the right track as it’s important to me that my products are equally well received.
I myself have fallen in love with some of my products, some of them I swear by (My Pear and Apple Blossom Candle, Solid Lotion Bar and Body Scrub Souffle’ for instance), and I’d like that same belief and enjoyment to be experienced by others.

On Sunday 20th October (which is in 2 weeks time), I will be doing another market! this time in Brick Lane, and I hope to introduce a brand new product there that I have been thinking about making for quite some time now: Hair Elixir. Details to follow shortly!
