Last weekend we exhibited at the hugely popular Myddleton Road Market. Thankfully the weather held out for us and as it was also Fathers Day people were out in their hundreds looking for crafty finds, sampling the tasty street food, socialising and watching the live entertainment.
It was wonderful meeting and talking to people, and they were very complimentary about my products and services which was very flattering. I didn’t make lots of sales but sometimes it’s the feedback that is invaluable and there is a possibility of the market going monthly so it might be in my best interests to consider being more of a permanent fixture in order to grow my client base.
My new banner looked great too, in particular because it showcased my brand new website which went live just the day before!
Here are some picture from the event:

To celebrate the opening of our new store we are running a promotion. Just use the code NEWSCENTS and get 10% off any product on our website. It’s only valid until Thursday 30th June so hurry!
In less then 2 weeks time The Secret Scent Societe’ will be showcasing our gorgeous fragrant wares to the residents of North London at the Myddleton Road Summer Festival.
Myddleton Road Market is a fabulous local market, that recently won The Great British Market Award for Best Small Community Market.
Featuring a hand selected group of local business owners and designer/makers (I don’t actually live locally but my sister in law actually lives on Myddleton Road itself!), and including Arts and Crafts, Jewellery, Accessories, Clothes, Beauty and Food sellers, the market will also have live Music, Face Painting and even a Fun Fair for Children.
Following our successful event at the Charles Worthington salon a few weeks ago we are on form to spread a little perfumed joy to all of the people of Myddleton Road and beyond and we are looking forward to maybe meeting some of you there!
You can find the details of the festival below (spread the word!)
Also, our website will be going live very soon.
This sweet and zesty smelling beeswax hand butter is perfect for those cold winter months when you need a little extra moisturising . Richly nourishing and made with 100% natural ingredients it can easily be made at home with a few select ingredients including beeswax which seals all the moisture into your skin, cocoa butter, shea butter and avocado oil and a few other ingredients.
Here is the full recipe so that you can try it at home for yourself!
You will need:
114 grams Beeswax
85 grams Cocoa Butter
7 grams Shea Butter
7 mls Lanolin
7 mls Avocado Oil
7 mls Tea Tree Oil
7 mls Jojoba Oil
7 mls Orange Essential Oil
An empty container to store your Hand Butter
First, melt the Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter and Beeswax in a double boiler or Baine Marie then gradually add the other ingredients leaving the Essential Oil to last. Make sure that you stir all of the ingredients together thoroughly and only add the Essential Oil once the mixture has cooled down. Beeswax thickens fast so make sure you pour it quickly into your container before it thickens up as otherwise you will have to remelt it again and repour. Place in freezer until it had set up then take it out and wait for it to come to room temperature first before using.
This is a wonderful recipe that lasts a while due to it’s highly effective ingredients. I hope you enjoy it and of course do let me know what you think of it!

How to Use your Massage Candle:
After lighting the wick and waiting for the wax to melt to your desired amount, blow it out and wait for it to cool down before checking the temperature (making sure that the wax isn’t too hot) before pouring the warm wax directly onto your skin.

This will be the last time you hear from me this year as in two days time I will be flying off to sunny Thailand for 2 weeks!
It’s been a great year for me, and even better for my brand The Secret Scent Societe’ which has grown from strength to strength. I’ve become a lot more relaxed in my approach to business which I feel has helped me become a better business women. I’ve also taken more risks this year with regards to sending off my products to bloggers to have them reviewed (which I wasn’t all that keen on doing previously) and finally getting a professional photographer to photograph my products.
I’ve also introduced some new products this year which have had a really good response from my customers: Wood Wick Candles, Bespoke Reed Diffusers, Hair Perfume and my very first Eau de Parfum “First Love”.
Next year I hope to create more Perfumes, perhaps a Massage Candle, Bath Bombs, and lots more! Tis all very exciting.
I wish you all the very best of festive holidays, with lots of good food, laughter and quality time spent with the ones you love. I will be thinking of you whilst I’m luxuriating myself on Lamai Beach with a glass of French 75.
So, until 2016:
Check out this easy-peasy natural skincare recipe that you can make quite easily at home using just a few key ingredients.
Toners are a form of gentle skin hydration that is used after the removal of makeup which can sometimes strip the skin of its natural oils and moisture. Toners act as the much needed hydration and refreshment of the skin after makeup remove and before your moisturisers is applied. It’s a simple but effective way of making sure your skincare regime is a pure as it can be.
Here is an recipe for a skin toner that’s especially good for hydration
You will need:
- 1/4 Cup Tap Water
- 1 Tablespoon Witch Hazel
- 1/2 Teaspoon Vegetable Glycerin
- 5 drops clary sage (salvia sclarea) essential oil
- 5 drops grapefruit (citrus paradisi) essential oil
- 5 drops german chamomile (matricaria recutita)
First: Boil the water rapidly for around 3 minutes to sterilise, then cool. Combine all of the ingredients together in a small spray bottle and shake together to blend. To use, shake well then spray directly onto clean skin or on a cotton wool pad and apply. Follow up with a good moisturiser.
You can also change the essential oils used in this blend but try to stay away from citrus oils as they can irritate sensitive skin.
Enjoy! and do let me know how you get on with it, I’m always happy to hear from you 🙂
A few weeks ago I had a photoshoot in Kilburn for my existing and up and coming products.
It was waaay overdue and I’m really glad that I done it though I had only booked a 2 hour slot and I didn’t realise until we were shooting how quickly that time goes!
I do think that it makes sense to do product photoshoots regularly (like every 6 months or so) and time it so that you’re able to incorporate any new products into your shoot also.
I will be releasing 3 new products just in time for Christmas! (Wood Wick Candles, Hair Perfume and Eau De Parfum)
Here are the fruits of my labour (or his, depending on which way you want to look at it!):
- Anniversary Reed Diffuser
- Lavender, With Love Luxury Soy Candle
- Lemongrass & Mandarin Himalayan Pink Salt Body Scrub Souffle’
- First Love Eau De Parfum
Would love to know your thoughts on the new photography and products!
As always, The Secret Scent Societe’ Bath, Bodycare and Fragrant Homewares are available to buy on NOTHS: http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/thesecretscentsociete

In other news: It looks like i’ll finally be surrendering to the very obvious fact that I am no photographer and getting some professional product photography done in the next couple of weeks. I can’t wait!
Solid Perfume is a more compact and undiluted, alcohol free version of your typical eau de toilette. It can be made with all your favourite essential oils AND you can store it almost anywhere – an old Vaseline tub, a lip balm container, a locket – you name it. I bought a beautiful leather and silver locket in Lake Como a couple of years ago and I have my solid perfume in there. Not only is it gorgeous but it smells so good it makes me smile everytime I open it up.
And you lucky things are going to get the recipe so that you can make your very own. Exciting huh?!
You will need:
2 tsp Beeswax
2 tsp Carrier oil (Olive oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Grapeseed Oil – whichever you prefer)
40 drops of Essential Oil
1 drop Vitamin E (optional)
Something to put your perfume in (old lip balm container etc)
Suggested Essential Oil Blend (but you can use whatever variation you like)
Provence in Spring
18 drops Chamomile EO
18 drops Lavender EO
4 drops Vanilla EO
Firstly, you need to prepare your perfume oils. Using a pipette, combine your essential oils in a small container ready to go.
Then, using a double boiler or Baine Marie, gently melt your beeswax. This won’t take very long as you’re not going to be melting a lot. When the beeswax has melted you will need to work quickly to combine both the beeswax, the carrier oil (I like to use Sweet Almond or Grapeseed as they are almost odourless and non-greasy), Vitamin E (if using), and your ready mixed Essential Oils. Mix them together with a small spoon to blend. If you don’t work quickly at this point your perfume will set up making it hard to get into your container. Once you have mixed it sufficiently you can go ahead and pour it into your container. If your blend sets up before you have been able to get it into your container then don’t panic, just hover it over your double boiler to melt it a little (don’t melt all the way as you will lose some of your essential oils to evaporation).
Leave to set for a few minutes and Voila! You have your very own sweetly scented perfume. Welldone you! 🙂
