The internet is a dangerous thing. Aside from the obvious “dangerous things” there are to be had on t’internet, shopping for me, is one of them. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not a shopaholic nor a hoarder (in a lot of cases those can be one and the same!), but I DO like a frock. Evening dresses, Party Dresses, Casual Dresses, Summer Dresses, Beach Dresses, Wedding Dresses, Sexy Dresses, I love em all! I won’t bother trying to pretend that my addiction to clothing only extends to dresses as that would be telling porkies (I also favour bags, jewellery, lingerie, shoes, jackets, jumpsuits, tops etc), but I can honestly say that almost no other piece of attire excites me in quite the same way as when I clap my eyes on a beautiful dress. When I look at the design of a dress, it’s detailing, the material, the movement, the embellishments I get very excited indeed.
Since I’m STILL trying to justify the extortionate prices of the dresses on Nasty Gal and Revolve I am happy to continue doing research into locating a website offering similar clothing at a much cheaper rate (indeed a MUCH cheaper rate considering the last time I ordered from Nasty Gal I had to pay a hefty £65 just in duties and tax alone). As much as I really adore there clothing this is just not sustainable. Right now though, I am eyeballing this hot Nasty Gal dress. I LOVE the front slits, the length of the dress and the white rib detailing. It’s simple but effective Phwooar! It’s out of stock in my size at the moment (surprise surprise), but sooner or later it WILL be mine! moo ha ha ha moo ha ha ha!

I’ve also got my eyes on these earrings (gorgeous aren’t they?!)

And these sunnies (though I might be able to get some similar on Asos. I will check!

A lovely summer dress (PERFECT for Greece methinks!)

Elegant Simplicity..(by the way I must confess this model they have chosen to model a lot of there wares is very beautiful – Nasty Gal also do well in this regard)

I’m willing myself to be selective about what I purchase despite my intense desire to own most of what I see on there as my funds will only stretch so far. I think I will definitely go for the black dress with the slits (when it is back in stock), and the earrings and the necklace and see how I go!

You must admit though guys, these are pretty nice threads! 😉

Happy Friday!!

There’s been lots going on for me this week as aside from working and posting out orders for our new aromatherapy candles, I’ve also been cat shopping as my boyfriend and I have decided to leave my beloved cat Jackson Brown with my Mum, and get ourselves a kitten. I was going to bring him with me to my new home but I’ve realised now that it would be better for him if I left him where he is. He is happy there and besides, my Mum would miss him terribly. I have always wanted a British Shorthair cat so I’m excited about finally getting to own one. We’re going to get either a blue or lilac one.

Also this week, my colleague asked me if I can make some wedding favors (soaps and candles) for her wedding in August. I’m really excited about this as it means that I can use this as a catalyst to expand into the hugely successful Wedding Market. She has pretty much given me free reign (within reason), to design and make her favors so I set about giving her some ideas this week, including this:

Himalayan Pink Salt French Clay and Poppy Seed Soap Parcel

I’m planning on making a variety of different soap types so that I can eventually do a show at one of the bridal exhibitions and hopefully gain a new client base!

And a Happy New Year!

And a Happy New Year!

2014! – A whole new year! – have you made any resolutions yet?..

Resolutions for me are to cook more (I made a beautiful French onion soup last night!), keep up with my exercise regime, see my friends more and business wise I’d like to have my products stocked in at least 1 or 2 retail stores by the end of the year.

My Christmas was fabulous – my boyfriend and I spent it with his parents and brother and I was spoilt to within an inch of my life! check out all of my goodies! 🙂

Xmas Goodies

My boyfriend got the award for getting me the best combination of gifts ever with a dazzling array of jewellery, a gorgeous scarf, lingerie, a sexy photoshoot, front row tickets to the cirque de soleil show, perfume, a dress and a beautiful grey fox fur coat that I’ve had my eyes on (but couldn’t afford!). I even got a beautiful velvet riding hat from his parents as I’m taking up horseriding lessons this year.

After Christmas we went to my Mums for dinner with my family which was lovely. I bought my Mum a bracelet that I had engraved with words which made her cry. I was happy to have touched her with my words though my intention obviously wasn’t exactly to make her a shed tear! 🙂
We played my favourite board game Balderdash, which I lost – to my boyfriend naturally as he’s always winning these kinds of games. Hmpf!

I’m off on my holidays on Thursday, we’re going on a Caribbean cruise. It’ll be our first ever cruise and our first ever visit to most of the cruise destinations. We’ll be going to Dominica, St Maarten, St Thomas, St Kitts, Barbados and Florida. We are cruising with Celebrity Cruises and the ship looks amaaaazing and has everything and anything you could possibly wish for including a lawn club, spa, gym and swimming pools, a theatre, a glass blowing show, arts and crafts workshops, nightclubs, restaurants, a shopping centre and much much more!

I can’t wait to experience a little cruise style luxury and visit all of the beautiful west indian islands on my travels and I will surely update you on my findings upon my return!

Have you got any holidays planned this year? If so, where to? 🙂

Hi All!

I hope that whatever you did this weekend, it was a memorable one.
I had a nice relaxing weekend at home with my boyfriend. We watched loads of episodes of Breaking Bad (love it!) and my sister stayed over on Friday night and brought her freshly baked banana and walnut loaf with her. Mmmmm!

I spent at least 4 hours on Sunday morning working on product photography but in the end I wasn’t happy with any of the images as they all had a blue tint to them (probably something to do with the camera settings), alas I will have to do them all again – what fun! (not).

I am in 4 Treasurys this week! The first one is entitled “I’m not always a pink kind of girl” – which I can vouch for as I’m not a particularly pinky girl either, however I do like blood red, ox red, burgundy (all very similar I know, hehe) and blush pink and they all feature in this lovely treasury. My blush pink candle “Anniversary” is featured here.

Brick Lane Market

Brick Lane Market

So, I exhibited in Brick Lane Market this Sunday. It was extremely busy there – I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people at a market before which I took to be a good sign. I had to wake up at 6: 00 am in order to get there for my early start at 8:30 am! As I’d never traded there before I didn’t want to leave anything to chance in terms of parking, locating my stall and setting up etc so I got myself there an hour and a half before the market opened to the public. The market itself is huge – it’s situated in an enormous warehouse where there are traders selling everything from gelato and international cuisine, to clothes and jewellery, art, furniture, and handmade goods. The market I traded in is exclusive to Designer-Makers and was bright and roomy. The table I got to showcase my wares on was huge! It doesn’t get as much traffic as the main market “Upmarket” but is more niche, and you know you are getting quality when everything sold there has been handcrafted by the trader. There did seem to be quite ALOT of traders selling food which seemed to be extremely popular and I guess I didn’t do too badly, but I did feel as though people were there to find a bargain, and not necessarily to buy quality goods. As much as I’d like to offer my products for next to nothing, the materials I use certainly don’t cost next to nothing to source and neither does my time in creating them and I find it hard striking that balance between offering a good price, and offering products at the price they cost, and are worth. You are always going to pay a premium for handmade goods anyway, particularly luxury handmade goods. I began to get the feeling that this wasn’t my target market when in the 3rd hour of me being there, despite there being hoards of people present, people were sniffing, complimenting, oohing and aahing, but weren’t buying. It was very frustrating to say the least. But I forced myself to put things into perspective when a man approached me saying that he ran a couple of Markets around London (including one in Fulham and a new one that he’d like to run regularly in Islington) and said that he really liked my products and was doing a special Christmas event in Islington which would be heavily publicised in the media, and at which there would only be 32 traders selling similar high end products to my own trading there. He invited me to exhibit there and said that he’d send me the details in the coming weeks. Sounds promising!

At Homegrown I also revealed my brand new hair care products that I’ve just created: Hair Elixir.

I made 2 testers and brought them along with me to the show so that people could try them out, and I could gain some valuable feedback on what people thought of them. People really seemed to like them so I think it’s only right that I make them available for sale online and in person. I might even try and get them into salons too.

There are 2 types of Hair Perfume that I’ve made: Number 1, is a non greasy, Alcohol-free Hair Perfume made with Jojoba Oil, Glycerin and Vitamin E to nourish, moisturise and deeply penetrate the hair, with a beautiful floral Essential Oil blend.

And the 2nd is a Perfume Hair Mist Spray, made with Orange Blossom Water and Vitamin E to fragrance, refresh and revitalise the hair. Both are 100% Alcohol-free and scented with pure Essential Oils.

I can’t tell you how much they will be just yet as I need to finalise some packaging details but I will soon! I think it’s pretty safe to say that every woman will want one of these badboys!

Homegrown

The Sunday Markets in Brick Lane Market have a wonderful collection of original, antique, handmade, vintage, wonderfully creative finds, a lot of which you won’t find anywhere else in London. Or why not commission a bespoke creation from a local independent artist/designer-maker? – Take a stroll down to the infamous Columbia Road flower market to pick up some beautiful, fragrant flowers? Or to the food market to taste some tasty food from faraway exotic climes?

I love Brick Lane Market for it’s ability to infuse the uber-cool, with originality and sophistication so effortlessly. The Secret Societe’ fuses art and science to create handmade fragrance, beauty and skincare products and we think that the Homegrown Market in particular, which showcases a collection from independent designer-makers in the UK, is the perfect place for us to begin our journey!

So, if your struggling to decide what to buy for your best friend, your Mum, your sister, your brother, your Dad, your husband (phew!), then come and see us at the HomeGrown Market this Sunday 20th October – we just might have the perfect gift!

The HomeGrown Market is situated in Elys Yard, which is on the corner of Hanbury Street and Brick Lane. Walk through UpMarket – another interesting market with a huge variety of food, lifestyle, accessories and fashion – and you will see the HomeGrown Market just up the small ramp. There is also a sitting down area if you need to rest your feet after a hard days shop!

We’ll be there from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm.

Hey Bloggee’s and Bloggettes!

Sorry about the delay in posting here, I’ve had some internet access difficulties. I hope you’re well? fine and dandy? alive and kicking?!

Over the past week or so I’ve been getting prepared for my exhibition this weekend at the Crafty Fox Market. A couple of weeks ago I went down to Brighton for the weekend and I found a beautiful dolls house that I’m going to use to display my candles, along with some hat boxes. At Crafty Fox I will be revealing my new skincare products including: Shea Butter Skin Silk Body Butter and Cocoa Butter Skin Silk Body Butter, a new fragrance for my Body Souffle’ and Salt Scrub Souffle’: Rose Geranium and Jasmine – divine! and my new luxurious Grapefruit Bath Salts. So if you are about this weekend, then why don’t you stop by? – I’ll be exhibiting on Sunday 6th from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm alongside some other wonderfully talented crafters. Everything at the market is handmade, and there will be a DJ and a tea and cake room too! Free Entry
