Why I love The Delano

Why I love The Delano

Yes. I’m back. And yes, I do wish that¬†I¬†was still on holiday alas all good things come to an end (and some things you really really hope don’t) – and this holiday was one of them!

And in particular…

The Delano

To say that it’s¬†better in reality than the pictures in an understatement. As “better¬†than pictures” just doesn’t quite cut it where The Delano is concerned. When I first walked into the hotel on Miami’s South Beach¬†I truly¬†thought that I had died and gone to heaven. It was my very¬†idea of perfection from a dream that I didn’t know I’d had. Though we were actually staying in the beautiful SLS Hotel next door Ian had booked a table¬†in their Italian restaurant Bianca¬†for our anniversary dinner and when we walked in there¬†we were immediately¬†reminded just¬†how well the American’s do luxury. Americans do luxury very well indeed.

The interior design of this hotel combined all kinds of exceptional: It was exceptionally glamorous, exceptionally minimalist and exceptionally elegant all at once. All of these things I seek in Interior Design and yet hardly if ever have I seen it executed as well or as effortlessly as it had been done here.

The entrance hall had triple height ceilings where floaty white chiffon drapery hung and swayed gently in the breeze on either side of a very wide and long entrance. Thick white pillars and dark varnished wood floors completed the feeling of space and light.

Though it was extremely minimalist (with only a few selected items of designer furniture and a transparent grand piano), it was undoubtedly stylish and extremely sophisticated. Large ornate mirrors and flickering lanterns placed on the floor completed the feeling of exclusivity, mystery, luxury and intimacy. In addition to this there was a most hauntingly beautiful citrus scent permeating the air which had clearly been designed especially for the hotel. I was completely in lust.

Walking out to restaurant on the terrace I was again struck by the carefully executed design. It is so hard to get minimalism right without making a place look scarce or feel cold and this designer had done an excellent job at proving that it can be done. And so it was.

Large potted plant pots¬†adorned the wide stone staircase leading to what I like to¬†call¬†“the magical night garden” below. Tall palm trees lined up either side of the very large pool area with cosy¬†private cabana’s and¬†a manicured¬†lawn¬†that occupied a white¬†four poster¬†bed and large canopy.¬†¬†Fairy lights twinkle¬†in the trees and bushes giving it a wonderful feeling of warmth and a rare, special kind of¬†magic.

So impressed with the design of this hotel was I  (and the fun and fashionable SLS hotel that we were staying in which was designed by the renowned French designer Philippe Starck), that I was intrigued to know who had designed it. Indeed I felt that I needed to know. So I done a quick Google search and found out that the person who designed The Delano was infact Mr Philippe Starck himself! Which would of course explain the cool, effortless Mediterranean chic that was prominent in the design of this hotel.  Phillippe, I salute you. #ISaluteYou

What say you bloggees and bloggette’s?¬† – Have you ever stayed at or been to¬†The Delano? What did you think of it? Were you as impressed as I?

This week we’ve been featured on a wonderful blog called Rules of a Lady, cool name huh?!

Rules of a Lady is a young, fashion forward lifestyle blog created by Italian blogger Silvia Cavagnini. She is big into fashion, lifestyle, interior design and infact anything beautiful and unusual and she contacted me recently about doing a collaboration with her. She looks for products that she really likes on websites such as Etsy (where she found me), and then she contacts companies about doing a feature on them. I just happened to be one of the lucky ones. She was particularly taken with my Coconut & Musk Soy candle and my RoseGold Reed Diffuser. A few weeks ago I sent her my very favourite soy candle Apple Blossom and Pear and my Luxury Grapefruit Bath Salts to review and she took a picture of it and left a review here:

Photography Pt III

Hi,

I hope you had a wonderful bank holiday weekend!

The weather was MUCH improved this weekend so I was able to take some more product photographs. I used my iPad to take the majority of them and then switched to my boyfriends camera to take the close up shots. I have a really good app on my iPad called BeFunky which allows me to do a variety of different effects to my photo’s but I had recently heard about a free photo editing tool called Picasa that a lot of people are using at the moment so I downloaded it and used it to edit some of my photo’s. I think they all came out pretty good overall.

I created some beautiful Wedding Swarovski pillar candles last week and they are available to buy on Etsy now:

I’m keen on expanding my skincare range to include body creams and face creams aswell as other bath and body products and I will begin working on introducing some new and exciting products when I return from my holidays in June (I’m off to Mexico on Saturday 1st June and returning on Tuesday 11th).

I am a big fan of photography, in particular of fine art photography, landscape photography, black and white and animal photography but unfortunately a photographer I am not. It’s not that I don’t have the creative flair, I do have idea’s it’s just the execution that is not so great – my lack of patience lets me down methinks, lol. Alas, I have created a wonderful treasury on Etsy entitled Blac/K & Whit/E which is an amazing array of stunning black and white photography created by talented and extremely PATIENT artists ūüėČ

I photograph all of my handmade products myself and sell predominantly online so my product photography is one of the most important if not the most important facet to my business exposure. Being approached by retailers, bloggers, and customers is dependant on how strong my branding and photography is and it has to convey the sense of luxury and exclusivity that my brand is about. I think it’s very important that there is a level of consistency in the style and approach of photography when you’re building a brand but then I do feel that variety is also important and so tomorrow I will be taking some new photographs of all of my products and also my newest recruits: My Body Souffle’ and Body Salt Scrub Souffle’ to reflect a stronger, more creative, and more polished version of The Secret Scent Societe’. I have done a little research and have some idea’s about different ways to present them so I’ll be trying them out aswell as getting some closer shots in better lighting.

What do you think of my photography?

And do you have any idea’s about what I could do to improve on it? – Answers on a postcard, or even just on here! ūüôā
